Uota is the african name of Carlos Monteiro, born in Angola. It means "to scoop". Uota is raised in Portugal. His artistic aspiriation started when he and his secundary school class submitted a drawing, made by Uota, and won a prize. Uota's passion for drawing and painting was crowned: the drawing was used for the image of a stamp.

During his time in secundary school Uota worked as an aprentice sculpture in a workshop voor carving amongst other things, carving of graveyard stones. After secundary school, Uota studied drawing and painting at ARCO art school in Lisbon ( He didn't complete these studies ). Uota enriched his studies with private lessons and workshops in water painting and model drawing in i.a. Huizer Arts Center and with Otto Müller (austrian artist living in Portugal ). For, among other subjects, the interaction between colour and music harmony Uota studied with his good friend Eugen Gondi ( romenian artist and former restaurateur at the rijksmuseum in Amsterdam ).

Uota went on studying  music and art teaching at several instituitions in The Netherlands earning two bachelors degrees at: Codarts Rotterdam, Rotterdam conservatorium and the University of applied sciences Groningeh ( Hanze hoogschool ).

Uota is currently a music and art teacher at several department of Dr. Nassau college in the province Drenth in The Netherlands where he is based in the last thirty years..

 

Uota’s artistic influences are mainly from his own african tribes; Dimba-Humbe and Himba, from german expressionist as the school" Die Brucke", the dutch school from Groninger" De ploeg", colorfield painting, informalism, Brutalism ( african brutalism architectual concept ) and  conceptual art.
